Tiki tOny

After a session of slowly gliding across the swell Tiki tOny came in from the sea, sat down with his board, and dreamed of a land where birds of blue and green perch high atop an A-frame hut, and the deep exhale from a volcano creates warm breezes that bend the flames of a smoldering torch. In this land monkeys howl to the beat of far away drums as the night sky turns sea green. Exotic vines wrap their way around forgotten skulls while tikis stare as they have for 2000 years.

Painter, carver, and illustrator, Tiki tOny from Ventura , California , creates whimsical, exotic isle works that travel to far off lands, inspired by the art of ancient Polynesia and subconscience undertones of Dr. Seuss. He first started these works when he began researching the history of surfing, and this lead to the discovery of the complicated and intense carvings of the Hawaiian Isles. Tony strives to use found materials and recycled paint to create his works, following the lesson taught by the people of ancient Rapanui (Easter Isle), who stripped the land bare creating their larger than life Moai tikis.

Since then tOny's necklaces, paintings, carvings, and illustrations can be found around the globe. He created the logo for the Tabou Tiki bar in Berlin , Germany , bar stool tikis for the Lucky Tiki bar in Northridge , California , illustrations for the adventure seeking Adrift Clothing and his individually carved driftwood tiki necklaces are worn by people from Guatemala to Japan . In spring 2006 Tiki tOny released his first tiki mug, Fatutu, which instantly sold out. His works were shown in Paris , France in the Musee International des Arts Modestes' show "Paradirama," the Shooting Gallery's 2004 and 2005 "Tiki Art Now," Roq La Rue's "Tiki Art 3," DVA Gallery in Chicago, A Stuart Gallery in Los Angeles , M Modern Gallery in Palm Springs , and La Luz de Jesus gallery in Los Angeles .

Tiki tOny loves that the works he creates for his own enjoyment are appreciated by so many. Tony hopes to continue showing his work in galleries everywhere in order to spread the vision of his dreamy, exotic lands.
