Te Iwi Morehu Te Wahinerahi Wepiha

The Palehua exhibition pieces were inspired by a recent trip to the Hawaiian Island of Hilo . As a young Maori woman Te Iwi instantly gained an affinity with the indigenous people's relationship with nature. Palehua is the mountain of Hilo . In Maori tradition the maunga (mountain) is a symbol of what anchor's the tangata (Maori people) to the whenua (land). Each piece incorporates the themes of Kaupapa and Tikanga (Maori customs and traditions handed down through the passages of time) of Tupuna (ancestors) and Whanau (family) all of which has influenced her as a young Maori artist and performer.
